Burdett funded AI Nurses Network

Dr Siobhán O’Connor, a registered nurse and senior lecturer in the Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery and Palliative Care at King’s College London, launched the new AI Nurses Network in December.

The AI-NURSES project aims to:

1) Build and connect a community of nurses in the United Kingdom who are interested in or actively researching artificial intelligence (AI) in nursing to improve patient care,

2) Provide resources and support to nurses to increase their knowledge and skills in artificial intelligence to enable them to conduct AI research,

3) Strengthen professional networks and collaborations between nurses, computer/data scientists, and industry to produce nurse-led research on artificial intelligence that delivers high quality care.

The network will also be funding nurse-led research projects into AI work up to a value of £20,000, applications opened on 6 January and close on 28 February.

Previous successes:

The 2023-2024 Harvard Chan Burdett Trust for Nursing Fellows gave the HGNLP certificate programme stellar ratings. Among the overwhelmingly positive feedback:

  • Fellows rated all three courses 100% for quality and content usefulness, and strongly agreed that the skills, knowledge, and practical experiences they gained would be useful in their professional lives.
  • 100% strongly agreed or agreed that the courses met the competencies stated in the syllabus and facilitated the necessary learning.
  • A majority of Fellows believed that the courses flowed seamlessly and provided cohesive information and noted that the online format and learning activities allowed them to continue to work full time while completing their applied projects.
  • Fellows also indicated they would recommend the programme to other nurses and midwives seeking substantive leadership development.

Throughout the programme, Fellows used the skills and concepts they acquired in the courses to design, implement, and address an actual public health or primary health care issue in their home countries. Areas of focus included reducing maternal mortality, improving post-partum health coverage, addressing safety risk factors among health care workers, and reducing mortality rates for various diseases.
